Diacritico was set up by two Oxbridge graduates who have worked on multilingual projects in several countries and industries.

Andrew Staffell – director and Spanish account manager

Andrew StaffellI grew up in London and spent my summers in Andalucía. A little later I was awarded a first-class degree cum laude in Modern Languages (Spanish with Linguistics) from the University of Oxford, and then an MA in English with distinction at University College London. I am an experienced journalist and subeditor, having worked for or at various publications including The Times, The Times Literary Supplement, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Time Out Magazine, Time Out Guides, the deluxe travel guide Nota Bene and the literary magazine Zembla. I have translated work by major authors including Javier Marías, Carlos Ruiz Zafón and José Saramago, and I was the Spanish-language editor of the recent Spanish Phrasebook series in the Guardian. I also have wide experience in design and marketing, having run a web development company for many years. After a period in Barcelona, I now live and work between London and Seville.

Thomas Eagle – director and Italian account manager

Thomas EagleI was born in Italy and educated in the UK, studying French, German and Latin before gaining my degree in Modern and Medieval Languages (Italian and German) from Cambridge University in 1996. I then moved back to Italy and lived in the Veneto region for 11 years, learning the Venetian language while I was there. I worked as an English teacher, a translator for Sardinian psychiatrists, an export manager for a clothing accessories brand, a web producer for lastminute.com in Milan, and then as marketing and communications manager for Manfrotto – a leading photographic equipment manufacturer with an international, English-speaking distribution network accounting for 95% of its turnover. I left to become a freelance graphic designer and worked on multilingual web, print and branding projects for clients in Italy, France, Poland, Israel and the UK. In 2007 I moved to Seville, where I learnt Spanish and co-founded a communications and design company.
